Body-oriented, trauma-informed psychotherapy for Michigan (and Florida)

‘The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are.’—Joseph Campbell

Therapy is an opportunity for you to gain support while working through different issues, crises, and traumas as well as working towards achieving your personal goals. Together, we can really hone into what it is you are wanting for yourself and finding a path forward—that best suites you. Often, the work is getting back in touch with your Self in a deeper way—like re-calibrating your inner compass. My understanding of counseling comes from holistic and trauma-informed approaches that incorporate mind, body, and spirit such as Jungian, transpersonal, somatic, mindfulness, attachment, and creative expression approaches. I also have a sandtray in my office for sandplay!

I respect and honor the diversity of all individuals of different, cultures, races/ethnicity, gender identifications, age, sexual orientations, religions/spirituality, physical/mental abilities, immigration status, legal status, criminal history, and socioeconomic status. I am committed on doing the ongoing work to becoming anti-racist and am dedicated to providing an anti-oppression/social justice-oriented, body-positive and feminist space. I understand that much of therapy has Euro-centric roots that historically pathologized anyone that was not white, cisgender and heterosexual. This is one of the reasons I prefer to not diagnose clients (unless it really feels necessary for the client); diagnosis is rooted in oppression of minorities, women and LGBTQIA+ folx. It can be used to force neurodiverse folx to conform to neurotypical standards (I am neurodiverse affirming!). Part of de-colonizing therapy is to value and prioritize the wisdom and experiences of other cultures—and to not keep perpetuating the white cis/het standards on to people.

Everyone is welcome!

Land Acknowledgement:

Detroit rests on Waawiyaataanong, the ancestral and contemporary homeland of the Three Fires Confederacy: Ojibwe, Odawa, Potawatomi, and Wyandot nations. Somatic Psychotherapy Michigan acknowledges that we are occupying this land and is committed to bringing honor and respect to the sacredness of it as well as bringing awareness to this history of colonization.

The most common form of despair is not being who you are.’ —Soren Kierkegaard

Sometimes we can all use some support.

Have you been struggling and looking for relief? Maybe you are feeling overwhelmed or exhausted. Maybe you are feeling knocked off balance and want to feel more grounded and feel good in your body again. Maybe you want to feel connected to your authentic Self.

Therapy is a great place for self discovery as well as a refuge for a weary soul. Life can bring so much pleasure but it also can feel like too much at times. You don’t need to struggle alone. Let’s figure out what inspires you and what you desire for your life. How can I assist you with living the life of your dreams?

Therapy is a judgement free zone and a safe space where you can explore your hearts desires and receive support for difficult topics or painful experiences. You do not have to do anything that feels uncomfortable in therapy—there is no pressure and everything is done at your pace.

Are you wanting support with sex?

You do not have to talk about sex or work on sex issues to come to therapy. However, some people may be wanting to work on sexual issues and therapy is a great place to explore sexuality, desire, concerns, intimacy and a lot more— in a judgement free space. Sex is a very important part of the human experience and is a way we connect with our bodies and others. Sex therapy is a sex positive, LGBTQIA+ advocating, gender affirming, polyamory affirming, kink affirming and a body positive space. I would be happy to help support you in having the sex life you want or explore sexual topics.

*Therapy at Somatic Psychotherapy Michigan will not be a good fit for you if you do not want to do somatic therapy or Internal Family Systems/parts work—I weave these two modalities into all the work I do. To learn more about somatic and IFS work check out my blog.

I also use a virtual sandtray for clients that do virtual sessions.
